Igunbor Sarah speaks on why Edo Needs Gov. Obaseki

Sarah Igunbor responded to 12 Questions raised on Edo What We Need platform with the response she below:

1. Need is something required for survival or to complete a task while a want can be likened to be a desire something to satisfy the need, something people desire that they may or may not be able to attain.

2. Needs assessment is very key and essential its forms the basic to which a body or an organization determines the lapses or gaps preventing them from reaching their goals, That knowing what is working well and what is not and what needs to be done or changed.

The need assessment is key in progressing and its an effective tool in the sucesss of an administration or Organization.

3. If we should conduct a wants assessment now I think we would be overwhelmed by the results which would be laced with selfish interest and our desires which is far from being the Needs

4. People have same needs but different wants.
Edo Needs Governor Godwin Obaseki to consolidate on the developmental strides witnessed in this administration

5. Firstly, democracy is government of the people, by the people and for the people, The need fits perfectly, It has to be for the greater good above the interest of few, Basically What is needed in the society is Basic healthcare facility, good roads, quality Education, Job Creation, Security, etc
These are the basic needs of the society so the needs is very essential and fits into Democracy.

6. I am a strong supporter of Godwin Obaseki who happens to be the current governor of Edo State, just a brief on him. Governor Godwin Obaseki is a Nigerian Businessman and Politician, who is currently the Executive governor of the state. He was sworn in as the governor on 12 November 2016 prior to that he was the chairman Edo Economic team and Strategic team inaugurated by former governor Adams Aliyu Oshiomole. He holds post graduate degrees in both Finance and international business, and is a Fellow of the chartered institute of Stock Brokers,Nigeria, Hes from Edo State
Over the last three and a half years Governor Godwin have been able to keep to his campaign promises and proof to Edo people that he has come to serve them and not Politicians, This is reflected in the various development strides witnessed across the state which and earned him the appellation “Wake and See” Governor by Edo People.

7. Government is all about the People and we believe only God gives Power, Governor Godwin Obaseki has made it clear in words and in Actions that to him coming into Politics is all about service to his people and contributing his own quota in developing Edo State.

Governor Obaseki through his populist and people oriented reforms has elevated the face of leadership and redefined politics to be able to make government respond to the yearnings of the suffering masses, which ordinarily should be the penchant of any government in power.

8. Like I said before the basic needs of the society reflects around Infrastructural development,
Education
Economy
Security
Job Creation and Human Capacity Development
Industrialization

9. What Governor Godwin Obaseki did on inception into office was to embark on a massive reformation in the different sectors, Unlike what was attained in the past, there is an exciting breath of fresh air in various sectors of the state including education; economy; infrastructural, human capacity and industrial development; agriculture and rural development

The Governor has touched almost every nook and cranny in the state in terms of developmental projects that are visible for ‘any doubting Thomas’ to see.
Some of what he is doing to address the gap in the various sectors includes;

On Education

The Edo state government  have invested in reforming the basic education sector as a prerequisite of achieving sustainable growth, identifying technology as a key driver within the reform process. The result birthed the Edo Basic Educational Sector Transformation (EDOBEST} Which helped to support training and development , helping to boost the capability of all Edo government teachers to improved the quality of education. This initiative have developed a pool of highly skilled teaching workforce for the state, by training , supporting and motivating Edo teachers to succeed in enhancing the Edo state basic education curriculum thereby empowering the children to compete effectively in the world of work.

Inauguration of school based management committee to maintain public Education facilities

Inauguration of post primary education board teachers disciplinary council to checkmate indiscipline among teachers in secondary schools in the state, He also ensured special packages to lift the spirits of Edo teachers

Health Care

We all know that the basic health care system would be a mirage if the government does not invest in it, Edo state government bearing this in mind embarked on massive renovations of primary healthcare centers across the state to deliver quality services to Edo people.

The series of intervention is anchored under the Edo Healthcare improvement programme (Edo Hip), which kicked off with rebuilding of over 20 health care centers, The Primary health care centers are also to serve as referrals centers to the general hospitals as the Ict will help capture information and pass it to a central database.

The state government also established a health insurance scheme backed by law for every Edo citizens to enable  them access healthcare in the state provided they have enrolled into its scheme, so that finance does not hold Edo citizen from getting healthcare.

In decongesting the Irrua specialist teaching hospital which offers treatment for lassa the state government also established a new lassa fever treatment center in Benin with to make treatment of the disease more accessible to the people, there was plans to build another in Edo north before the outbreak of this pandemic. This act was commended by the world bank, president Buhari and even the Nigerian center for disease control which applauded the state government for the timely intervention. The feat has attracted the international community as the governments of Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania have sent representatives at different times to Edo State to understudy the Edo-BEST initiative. Just recently, Lagos State Government adopted the Edo State Basic Education model after officials of the state came to learn how the programme works.

Agriculture Revolution

Already, impacts of the governor’s effort to unlock the state’s potentials are eminently felt in all sectors. One of Obaseki’s blueprints for development in the state is the harnessing of agriculture’s immense capacity to accommodate more hands.
With a vision to create over 200,000 jobs after his first tenure at the helm of affairs of the state, he has gone all out to craft policies and initiatives to get more youths into agriculture through a value chain driven agricultural development model designed to ensure smooth commodity to market  flow. In Edo, the government is building a strong nexus linking youths, agriculture and jobs. The state government believes that tapping opportunities from its vast arable, loamy land to provide jobs for teeming youths would quell job crisis. The idea was  hinged on the thinking that agriculture has a huge potential for job creation, which affords the people better life.
Already, the farmers in Agenebode axis of the state have started reaping from the bouquet of policies of the Obaseki led administration, harvesting several metric tons of rice in farms cultivated in partnership with the state government, who provided inputs and technical support for the farming season. The farms were captured under the state’s Agriprenuer programme, which prioritises the cultivation of a number of crops, including maize, cassava and rice. Over 10,000 hectares of land in various locations across the state are being cultivated under the agripreneur programme.

Industrialization

the industrialisation plan pursued by the Obaseki-led Edo State Government is quite grand and encompasses a wide range of strategically connected projects which does not only targets to see the rise of the state as an economic hub, but as a cynosure of all those seeking to make an industrial city from a lowly Civil Service state.

Technical College is still ongoing; the revamp is in order to train a new breed of technicians and scientists that will be absorbed by investors in the new companies expected to sprout from the Industrial Park and other projects that will be requiring technical manpower.

The government has, in the same vein, been training youths in enterprise development and other critical skills required in the 21st century workplace through its EdoJobs platform.

The vision of the state government through the Edo state skills development agency (ESSDA) towards two hundred thousand (200,000) jobs creation, transforming the state into an industrial hub and creating an enabling environment for innovators, entrepreneurs and businesses to strive, is still in full gears.

10. I think public private partnership in order to boost the economy.

This is is a sector that is in promoting and bringing investors to the state to grow the economy.

Well currently the state government is committed to ensuring a condulsive environment for business to strive. This he is doing by  operating a transparent, open and accountable government, and understanding what it takes for the private sector to come in by bringing the public element to the private sector.

11. Am a Strong Supporter of Governor Godwin Obaseki

12. For Now my Governor is more focused on fighting this pandemic than being carried any by politics gimmicks and distractors

This is not a time for politics but to come together as a people and fight this pandemic
