It all started after her marriage hit a rock, yes she was happily married. She had a humble beginning as things were actually rough with them after the death of her father. She moved to Lagos to stay with brother whom she was helping to run his business. Things were getting better till the brother traveled abroad and his wife took over everything and they w

TRUE STORY: AUNTY PRISCILLA, PLEASE SHOW ME THE WAY!!

Image
A true life narrative. In the past decade, several people especially acquaintances and younger colleagues have requested of me to ‘Show Them The Way’. Sadly, very few of these persons are willing to undergo the entire process of the “Way” they desire. They focus on the glitz and glamour associated with my work and refuse to acknowledge or associate with its inherent struggles, processes as well as its risks and challenges. I began BraveHeart Initiative (BH) at age 18 (Year 2002) as a teenage girl in a rural community. BHI was then known as Voice of the Zionites and operated as a youth led, youth focused, faith based youth development club. We only programmed during the main holidays as our target population were secondary school students and we needed an ample opportunity to reach them in large numbers. Our activities were executive during the Easter Holidays (April), Long Holidays (August) and Christmas Holidays (December). I had my first seminar on the 26th of December 2002

RELEVANCE OF BLOOD INVESTIGATION ………prevent or prepare for it.

Image
INTRODUCTION Blood is a very vital part of the circulatory system. It is usually red in colour as seen when we have a cut or injury. A proper look at its picture and contents gives a lot of information on various forms of health conditions that can be diagnosed through screening of the blood. It was observed that while data were collected from personnel, when it got to the area of feeding in information for blood group and genotype many were not forth coming. Some claimed they have never done it, though it was requested as part of needed information. Others claimed to have forgotten which ought not to be so. While a group  gave information that was not theirs, this is dangerous. Then some that know theirs did not know its relevance. The aim of the write up is to create awareness on the need for some blood investigations, their relevance as well as correcting misconceptions. That red substance (blood) is made up of cells which include: - Red blood cells

Ripples in Edo PDP as Chieftains Endorse Obaseki

Image
There is disquiet in Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as prominent chieftains are canvassing support for the second term ambition of Governor Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress (APC), OSAGIE OTABOR reports. CHIEF Gabriel Igbinedion, Esama of Bénin Kingdom, and Chief Tom Ikimi, former External Affairs Minister, are two prominent leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo South and Edo Central senatorial districts respectively. They are pillars of and much is expected of them as the party prepares for the PDP and next year’s governorship election. But, recent move by both men suggested that all is not within the opposition PDP. It has unsettled some leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) about the political cards being played by Governor Godwin Obaseki. Both chieftains paid separate visits to Obaseki  where they praised him to high heavens, contrary to views of the PDP leadership as regards the APC administration under Obaseki. Their visits

EDO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY COMPROMISED

Image
EDO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY COMPROMISED BY FUNKE OSIBODU: ....passes law on electricity theft but refused to pass same on estimated and outrageous bills. ....Chris Okaeben spearded deal as the house chairman of power. It was with rude shock and utter disappointment we received the information of Edo State House of Assembly passing a bill into law criminalising electricity theft and the set up of a special court for related offence. This action of the members representing Edo people have revealed their level of insensitivity towards the plight of Edo people in the face of extortion, estimated billing and darkness that the masses have been subjected to by the inept management of the Benin Electricity Distibution Company since takeover. While the same house of assembly have not raised a voice against the estimated and outrageous electricity bills citizens are forced to pay whether they are supplied electricity or not, they found it convenient to be compromised by Funke Osibod

36th INTERNATIONAL AIDS CANDLELIGHT MEMORIAL MARKED IN BENIN CITY, EDO STATE.

Image
DR. BRIGHT ONIOVOKUKOR, STATE COORDINATOR, CIVIL SOCIETY FOR HIV/AIDS IN NIGERIA (CiSHAN) EDO STATE CHAPTER MADE A REMARK DURING THE 36th INTERNATIONAL AIDS CANDLELIGHT MEMORIAL THAT HELD ON 19TH MAY, 2019 IN BENIN CITY, EDO STATE. He stated that the Annual International AIDS Candlelight memorial, beyond being a grass root mobilization campaign for HIV Awareness in the world, it is also an opportunity to address key issues that fuel the spread of the virus thereby making getting to zero a mirage. As we remember those that have died of AIDS, we need the support of everyone to encourage others to live positively. The 2019 theme is intensifying the fight for health and rights! *Edo State HIV prevalence is 1.9 (NAIIS 2018) which is worrisome because the Nigeria AIDS Indicator and Impact Survey (NAIIS) 2018 revealed that majority of cases that make up the 1.9 are new infections. This is an indication that a lot of work still needs to be done to stop new infections.
